The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) was enacted by Congress in 1966 to give the public access to information held by the federal government. The Act gives any person the right to request and receive access to any document, file, or other record in the possession of any agency of the federal government, subject to exemptions. In addition to the federal law, each State has its own "information" statues and laws, and most Foreign countries, also, have their laws to entitle you to the INFORMATION that you are entitled to!.

The Privacy Act also states that if the United States government has wrong or misleading information on you, you have a right to have it removed or corrected.
